This package of three half day sessions will ensure that Year 6 teachers feel confident in their teaching and assessment of Year 6 mathematics. The sessions will provide updates on the latest developments and national guidance as well as providing planning support to deliver an engaging and effective Year 6 curriculum.

Teachers will be given support in planning a curriculum that allows sensible preparation for the SATs whilst ensuring that children are able to develop their understanding and confidence throughout the mathematics curriculum.

Teachers will be working alongside Year 6 colleagues from other schools across the three sessions, giving them the opportunity to share best practice and to moderate their end-of-unit judgements together.

Session 1

Moderation of Place Value and guidance on how to teach Addition/Subtraction and Multiplication/Division effectively whilst incorporating sensible preparation for the SATs.

Moderation of Four Operations and guidance on how to teach Fractions, Decimals and Percentages effectively. Time will be spent discussing end of term assessments and how these can be used to inform Spring Term 1 Planning.

Moderation of Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. Guidance on how to plan an effective revision programme following the analysis of end of Spring 1 assessments.

The videos are really useful to go back to and remind yourself how to introduce new concepts and they give a wide range of differentiated ideas. Each term you are building on what has gone before revisiting the previous learning and making the next focused step. Another nice thing is the monthly Zoom for any queries that you might have. There is always advice on hand and the chance to discuss things with colleagues.”
